Cable spool

I got tired of the disarray in which my cable bundles were stored and decided to tidy it up a bit. A quick search on printables showed a whole bunch of cable spools, holders and accessories, but most of them required gluing and I wasn't in the mood for gluing up a bunch of spools and then waiting for the glue to dry, it's annoying enough to wait for the spools to be printed in the first place. I loaded up fusion 360 and created these 2 part press fit spools in two sizes. One suitable for holding about 5m(16mm version) of cable and another one for 10m(26mm version).

These are suitable for 24 awg/1.4mm cable bundles, which come without a spool, that you often find in online stores that are known for selling cheap stuff. There's nothing wrong with the cable, although after winding up a couple of 100m worth of spools I think I'll opt for buying cable on a spool next time.

Dimensions

The outer discs are 50mm in diameter and the spools are either 20mm or 30mm wide.

Note that because of their press fit design the inner dimension of the spool is up to 2mm (depending on which version you print and to some extent your printer) smaller on one side. This might affect your the mounting options if you had intended to mount them on a rod or something. I might add some munting options or adjust for mounting later but for now this is left as an exercise for the you.

Inner diameter is 25mm on one side and ~23mm. There is an alternative version with thinner wall that you can try but it requires a well calibrated printer.

Print settings

I printed these with 15% infill. Side A requires no special settings or care. Side B however requires fine details to make the crush ribs (0.3mm) and for the thin version the wall itself (0.15mm). I recommend printing it slowly and with much detail. I used the "0.15 quality" profile in PrusaSlicer.
