A cake topper that is actually you: the dress or the suit you chose, your hair the way it will be on the day, the real difference in your heights. We have had this request through our quote form, and it is one of the few figurine jobs with a date that cannot move, so this page covers timing as much as anything.
What to send us
- A clear photo of each face, front on and from the side, in daylight.
- A full-length photo of the two of you standing together, so your heights against each other come out right.
- Photos of the outfits: the dress, the suit, the tie or bow tie, and the shoes if they will show. A swatch of fabric photographed in daylight helps with colour.
- How you will wear your hair on the day, if it differs from the photos.
- The wedding date, and the date you need the topper in hand, which should be earlier.
Getting the two of you right
Most of the likeness is in the faces, but the rest is in the pair: who is taller and by how much, how you stand together, where the hands go. We take that from a photo of you side by side, and the skin tones and hair colours from daylight photos, because indoor light shifts them.
The outfits are sculpted from photos of the real thing. Lace, a veil, a fitted jacket, a bow tie: tell us what matters most and what can be simplified at this size.
A topper has to stand on its own on a soft surface, so it is designed on a base wide enough to stay upright. You see renders before printing and can ask for changes, then it is printed in resin and hand painted.
Size, material and finish
- Size
- Small, around 10cm, suits most cakes. Standard, around 15cm, for a large or tall cake.
- Colour
- Hand painted, full colour, matched to your photos.
- Material
- Resin, for the faces and the detail in the fabric. Resin is not food safe, so the topper stands on its base and nothing printed goes into the icing.
- Base
- Plain, or engraved with your names and the date.
- Finish
- Matte or gloss, to suit the cake.
How long it takes
The wedding date does not move, so this is the one job where you should get in touch as early as you can. The quote comes back within one working day with a lead time, and if your date cannot be met we will tell you then, rather than take the job and miss it. Allow for the post too: standard tracked delivery is two to four business days anywhere in New Zealand, and express is one to two.
Questions
Is the topper food safe?
No. Resin is not food safe, so the topper stands on its base on top of the cake. Nothing printed should go into the icing, and the topper comes off before the cake is cut.
Will it stand up on its own?
Yes. It is designed on a base wide enough to stay upright on icing, and the balance is checked in the sculpt before it is printed.
Can you add our dog, or our kids?
Yes. Send photos of them the same way, and tell us where they should be in the scene. Each extra figure is sculpted from its own photos.
