More information
Those low cost storage cubes have cardboard filling in them so I'm not comfortable for a screw on design. Origionally I want to make a glue on door, but it makes the assembly hard and unforgiven, so I make it clamp on. This model is designed for 2.5mm/0.1'' cut acrylic. This design is suitable for IKEA KALLAX that's 2 block wide, which include 1x2, 2x2 and 4x2, not sure if there is a 3x2 but it will work if there is.
Hardware you will need for one pair of door: M6x10 or M6x12 screw/thumb screw x4 Square M6 nut x4 M3x10 flat head screw x 12 M3x50 flat head screw x 4 M3 hex nut x12 M3 lock nut x 4 Door magnet as your like
Printed part for one pair of door: HandleIn x2 HandleOut x2 screwCap x4 (Or two sets of Accessories.3mf for 3 above) clamp x 4 swingL x 2 swingR x 2
You will need to get the cut acrylic panel for each door. The cut profile file is profile.dxf. You can cut it yourself if you have or have access to a laser cutter, or you can bring the file to your local shop. It don't have to be acrylic but it need to be 2.5mm/0.1'' thick.
Assemble as the photos. You will need to disassemble the KALLAX first and remove the divider panel between every 2 cubes. Assemble the swing on the clamp part and screw them together before attaching the acrylic panel. The screw cap is a bit tricky to keep in place, I used a niddle nose twizzer to slide it in place before clamp down the screw.
I printed all the printed parts with PETG but any material would work. The only material I would not recommend is ABS as that is a very “crumbly” material, like it do not like to flex, it just deform and gets out of the way. It's acturally the flexing of the clamp block that maintain the force to keep the whole thing in place. It also helps to force a high infill on places with screw champing force like in swingL/R, by using modifier function in PrusaSlicer, take a look at the 3mf files.
Cad file attached if you need to modify the design to suit your need.
