I am converting my Ender 3 v2 to direct drive, using a Micro Swiss NG. I have decided to do a reverse bowden setup with the bowden tube running all the way to my Sunlu S2 filament dryer.
Originally, I kept the same wire and bowden tube routing of the unmodified Ender 3 v2. But instead of just zip tying the cable/bownen tube bundle to the frame where the entruder was previously mounted, I designed a swivel, that would allow the bundle to gently rock back and forth as the print head moved from x=0 to x=220.
This setup (like the original Ender 3 v2) doesn't comfortably allow for the x gantry to reach the maximum allowable height of 250mm. After I posted my design to reddit, a user name balthizar suggested I could have mounted the swivel to the x axis limit cover and get the cable/bowden tube out from under the top of the frame. That was a great idea. So I have delivered.
Moving from the extruder to the x axis limit switch cover does add distance to the cable run and bowden tube. I am using a full length Capricorn tube. I had to move the wire bundle from routing out the back to routing out the side. I moved down where the extruder wire comes out from the bundle. All in all, it does fit comfortably and its really nice seeing the x gantry at z=250mm moving side to side without any cables rubbing.
I printed it al 0.16mm layer height, but 0.20mm should work as well. Obviously you need supports. I highly recommend the Cura Christmas Alpha version that includes the new tree supports. They detach really well. Its printed in 1 piece, with the side that touches the x axis gantry down on the build plate.
