A conveyor belt styled shelf to help keep your factory tidy.
Print and Build Instructions
This shelf is designed to be built using the included printed fasteners without any extra hardware or glue, but can be glued for more strength. Hot glue is helpful for installation of LED strips.
##
Side Brackets
Print the side rails laying flat for maximum strength. The side brackets include vertical conduit channels for routing wiring.
Conveyor Belt
Print the conveyor belt standing vertically on its wide edge. This is the largest part and is the limiting factor in determining how large you can scale up the print. It's designed to be printable at its default size on a 220mm build plate, if oriented diagonally. Make sure to adjust the solid infill direction when printing diagonally so that solid infill is generated diagonally across the part, not straight across or lengthwise. If you're not printing the shelf at a size where it's necessary to orient the belt diagonally, you may want to align it with the X axis in order to avoid having to tweak the infill direction. (This also applies to the front and back rails.) The conveyor belt includes wire routing paths cut into the frame on the underside.
Front and Back Rails
Print the front and back rails standing vertically. Brim may be helpful to prevent the ends from lifting. The front rail is intended to be printed in 3 colors using filament swaps, and to be printed using organic supports. The included optional front rail with no light holes doesn't require supports. The front rail includes wiring channels, with built in supports at each of its wire retainer tabs. These can be cut away, or you can route the wire underneath without removing them. The light modules are designed to accommodate short pieces of 10mm led strips.
##
Light Spacer
These look nicer when printed standing on their edge but you will never see them. They are an optional part of the build and might not be needed, or you might want to print them scaled to be flatter depending on how much space is left behind your light modules. If you are planning to include the light modules but not install any LED lighting, you can print the spacers at their default size and use them to hold the light modules in place, if you would rather not glue them.
Light Lens and Light Housing
The lens can be glued into the housing, the housing glued into the front rail at the corners and edges, and the led strip glued into the lens. Glow PLA seems to be more effective at diffusing light than transparent filament.
6mm Hex Key
Handy for getting the screws started at an angle, but the corners will strip off easily if over torqued.
Screws
Print the screws with threads pointing upwards. The screws can be turned with a 6mm or ¼" hex key / Allen wrench, but for maximum torque use a small flathead screwdriver. To make assembly of the shelf easier, test fit and break in all threaded joints ahead of time.
