More information
I have seen toys similar to this but not one exactly like it. It is inspired by several different designs to make a version that maximizes the educational potential.
Each shape corresponds with a number and each shape has that number of sides. I had to get creative to come up with a shape that only had two sides but i think it works. This is something which I believe is unique to my version.
Each shape also has a number of holes for pegs. It has the same number of holes as it does sides. By having different number of holes for each shape, a child will slowly learn that there is meaning behind the various shapes, colors, and quantities.
For the pegs, each peg file has a number and you should print that quantity of pegs. I know my cover image doesn't show all the peg slots filled but it is almost midnight when I started publishing this and i am tired XD. Alternatively, you could use a wooden 3/8" dowel rod which would save you print time. If you do want to print these i have cut off one side of the round rod giving it a flat to be printed on. I have already oriented all the models and you should print them on their side like i have them. This is to maximize strength and hopefully avoid them breaking all the time.
The words can each be printed in two colors and then glued into the base. Yes, digon is the correct term for a shape with two sides.
Again, i know my cover image only shows one of each shape, reference two paragraphs up for the reason. I am fairly certain that if you are operating a 3d printer you are smart enough to figure out you need more than one of certain shapes, but just in case:
• 1 Circle • 2 Digons • 3 Triangles • 4 Squares • 5 Pentagons
I really hope you enjoy the model. I seriously cannot believe how much time i sank into it. I probably spent a little too much time on some rather minor details but i am quite please with the end result.
I recommend printing everything with 3 walls and 20% infill.
If you make one please leave a make or comment.
