Gen3 Compatibility (update: Oct 20, 2025)
Working with @JoshuaFowler_3228464, I was able to add support for Gen3 spools.
Gen2 Compatibility
It sounds like there's some Sunlu spools that this doesn't work with. The most recent Sunlu spool I ordered was in June 2025 and had no issues. To be compatible, you'll need the inner diameter of the spool to be ~62.5mm. The spool's outer diameter should be around 195mm. The spool's outer diameter should be ~195mm. The holes to catch your filament on the outside of the spool should be around 22mm apart at the narrowest spot and should be around 91mm from the center of the spool. The should be 5.6mm wide and 10mm long.

Printing
Print 2x of the joiners and either one or two of the handles (you'll need an extra M4x40 for the second handle).
I found that I could fit all three parts within 256mm×256mm.
I printed mine in ABS. I used 100.7% scaling and that fit worked out correctly for ABS.
Fasteners
• 6x M4x30 • 1x M4x40 (could probably use another M4x30 instead)
SCHS is ideal, FCHS would work
Assembly
• Make sure the holes on the two sides of the spools are lined up • Slide one of the joiners through each spool • Bolt the pairs of two aligned screws with M4x30 bolts

Make sure the holes on the two sides of the spools are lined up.
If they aren't, disassemble the spool and try to re-align so that they do. The default alignment should line up correctly.
Slide one of the joiners through each spool.
Mate the two spool&joiner combos together, fastening the M4x30mm bolts into the four aligned holes.
Add the handle and screw it into place with an M4x30mm on the offside, and an M4x40mm on the side that already has two bolts.
Add the last M4x30mm bolt to the non-handle side (or repeat the previous step for a second handle).
Wrap your cord around the spools. Start with the prong end of your cord sticking through (from the inside to the outside) of one of the spool holes.
