Miniature Toy Safe with Ornate Decoration

All parts are self supporting, and snap fit/screw together without glue or extra hardware. A simple locking mechanism will let you lock or unlock it by choosing the right letter. You can choose any of the 16 letters, see instructions. Approximate size: 110 x 120 x 150mm.

This is inspired by antique miniature safe toys that were popular in the late 1800s to early 1900s. These were often made of cast iron, and some featured intricate decorations. The decoration on mine was inspired by antique doorknobs in the Eastlake Victorian style. There is also a plain version available for download.

Instructions

• The decorated safe has a top that snap fits into place, this is integrated on the plain design. All other parts are interchangeable. • For the main (decorated) safe body, consider not using adaptive layer heights and instead choosing a fine layer height for the whole part. This will give a more uniform look especially with metallic look filaments. • The lock assembly snap fits together (see image). You may need to scrape plastic off the nubs to get it together. • Choose your desired letter, and download the appropriate dial. Set the wheel to the unlocked position and snap the dial into place with your chosen letter at the top. • Light general purpose oil on the wheel detents will make the snap action smoother. • Print the Handle Bar and 2 Screws with 100% infill and fine layer heights. Use a brim. Keep in mind that silk filaments may be mechanically weaker than other filaments.
