If you find this model useful, feel free to buy me a coffee.
I was tired of buying and then losing or breaking cat wand toys. So I decided to make my own.
This wand telescopes from 6 ¾" to 24 ½". (17cm to 62cm.) To complete it, you'll need a small string and a cat toy. I also recommend adding a fishing swivel to each end of the string. That helps feather toys spin without tangling.
The bottom of the handle has a threaded cap, so you can remove the inner pieces to sand, etc. I had to sand the seam lines on mine because they stuck out a bit. If you sand too much, the pieces may slip out of each other. You can fix this with a small band of scotch tape or masking tape at the base of the cylinder that's slipping out. You can also play around with XY Compensation to get the fit just right. (It's called Horizontal Expansion in non-Prusa slicers.)
The cap should screw fairly easily on the threads after a few turns back and forth. If it doesn't, see above regarding XY Compensation.
I added a subtle cat pattern on the handle and a cat face on the bottom of the cap, based on royalty-free clip art.
Let me know what other features you want me to add. A twist lock that prevents the wand from coming out? A fishing pole reel? I'd love to hear your ideas.
Instructions:
• Print CatWand1of2 in one color without supports. (This is the cap and the handle.) I highly recommend an outer brim. Don't use an inner brim or else the cat on the bottom on the cap will have its eyes and nose filled in with brim. Or you could always just separate the cap and print it by itself with no brim. PrusaSlicer may give you a warning about Long Bridging Extrusions, but you can ignore it. • Print CatWand2of2 in a different color without supports. (These are the three inner cylinders.) For this, you probably want an outer AND an inner brim, so the two stacked cylinders are well-affixed to the build plate. You'll notice that one piece is flat on the plate. That's on purpose. It's the smallest piece, and this orientation prevents it from snapping when cats play too rough.
