More information

This tray was made in a state of emergency after I received a replacement SIM card and broke the original SIM card tray in the tray slot. Remakes sold on Amazon, AliExpress and others would have taken weeks to arrive, rendering me without cellphone, thus I gave it a shot. In my case, the tray fits even better than the original (the SIM cards were kind of loose in the original tray, but here they snap in place)! I also wasn't sure about the durability and whether it would break again once inserted in the phone, but rest assured, it is really stable as long as you consider the slicer/printing parameters below, you should be fine.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 SM-G950FD duos, but up to my knowledge it should fit for other models too. Other models that should fit (not tested) are: G950 G950F S8 plus G955 G955F (and maybe more).

The original SIM card tray has a rubber sealing, which is (of course) missing here. So, it is not water proof. The tray can be removed (just like the original one) by poking with a paper clip into the little hole.

I have NOT tested whether an SD card fits in, since this was not relevant for me. If it doesn't, please feel free to modify and share. However, two nano SIM cards fit perfectly.

Attached you will find two different models:

• Samsung_GalaxyS8_SM-G950FD_duos_sim_card_holder_v3_full This one is the complete model with the complete “cap” (see yellow model in the Tinkercad screenshot). If you manage to print this one (maybe with a resin printer??), it might be nicer, but I did not use it, because the overhang of the cap will require to use support (using an FDM printer), which (in my case) caused trouble / not ideal surfaces on the thin structure.

Printing this model with the cap (the piece with the hole) facing down works, but (at least in my case, FDM) this messed up the resolution along the slits on the site of the tray and for the SIM cards. In my case, the tray didn't fit in the phone. Moreover, the layer lines would be oriented in the weakest orientation. • Samsung_GalaxyS8_SM-G950FD_duos_sim_card_holder_v3_flat I recommend using this model for FDM printing. I cut the cap flat off (see red model in the Tinkercad screenshot) to create a flat surface:

I recommend to print it in this orientation. Like that, the layer lines are oriented to yield the most durable structure. Of course this creates a little gab when fully inserted into the phone (see pictures), but who cares …

Recommendations for orientation and slicer options (FDM) (what I used):

• Orientation (see above), print laying flat on the bed. The notches along the sides are important, they should face up. There are small overhangs for the SIM card holes. In my case no support was needed. • No support • Nozzle: 0.4 mm (smaller might be fine too) • Initial layer height: 0.2 mm • Layer height: 0.1 mm • Infill: 100%

Material

• I used PLA, other might be just fine too.

I printed on a BambuLab X1C using the Bambu Slicer (3mf file attached) and an AliExpress PEI plate.

Printing only took a few minutes.

I hope this will save your day!

Recommendations for designing your own tray

I searched for models of trays online and couldn't find any, which let me think that it might not work at all. However, please take this as a proof of principle! If you should find yourself in a similar situation for another phone and am willing to design your own model, I recommend to take the exact measurements of the original tray without tolerances. Like that the cards will snug in and not drop out. The original trays have a lot of extra indentations, holes etc. that are not really needed. So designing it is not as challenging as it might seem in the first place.

Start with some prototypes, and an extended handle to pull the tray back out. And please share your model :-)

Side note for lost parts in the phone:

If you should find yourself breaking the original tray with the SIM card inside your phone, you remove stuck parts and the SIM card by removing the back plate of your phone. Remove all components that are in the way (fairly easy) until you can see the metal cage of the SIM card slot. The metal case has holes and in my case I was able to push/drag the trapped parts out of the slot (going from hole to hole) with some tweezers or a needle. Assembly is easy, put everything back together and glue the back plate back on. I am sure you will find a tutorial online if needed.
