Bird owners know their bird is not just a green parrot or a grey cockatiel. It is the particular head tilt, the blush on the cheek, the feathers that never sit flat. A figurine of a bird lives or dies on the colour and the posture, and both come from good photos.
What to send us
- Your bird side on, from both sides, perched and relaxed.
- A clear photo of the head at their eye level, so the eye, the beak and the face markings come through.
- A photo from behind or with the wings slightly open, if you can get one, for the back and wing colours.
- Close-ups of the feet and the tail.
- The pose you want, what they should be perched on, and the wording for the base.
Feathers and posture
A bird changes shape with its mood: fluffed up, sleek, crest up or down, head tilted. Tell us which version of your bird you want and send photos of them looking like that, because posture carries as much of the likeness as colour does.
Feather texture is sculpted in, then painted by hand to your photos. Colours in birds shift with the light, so we match the photos taken in daylight and ask if anything is unclear.
You see renders before anything is printed and can ask for changes. Thin legs and toes are the delicate part, so the figure is fixed to a perch or base that carries it.
Size, material and finish

- Small, around 10cm, suits a budgie at close to life size. Standard, around 15cm, suits a parrot or a chook.
- Colour
- Hand painted, full colour, matched to your photos.
- Material
- Resin, for the finest detail in the feathers and feet.
- Base
- A perch or branch, a plain base, or an engraved one.
- Finish
- Matte for soft feathers, or a light gloss for a sleek bird.
How long it takes
The quote comes back with a lead time before you commit. If it is a gift, put the date in the form and we will tell you honestly whether it can be met. Posted tracked anywhere in New Zealand.
Questions
Can you make a figurine of a bird that has died?
Yes. Send every photo you have and tell us how you want to remember them. Our pet memorial page explains how we work from the photos you have.
Can you do two birds together?
Yes. A bonded pair on one perch is a lovely piece. Send photos of each, and one of them together if you have it.
Do you do chooks, rabbits and other small pets?
Yes. Chooks, ducks, rabbits and guinea pigs are all the same job: good photos from every side, then a sculpt you approve.
