Anyone who has owned a horse can pick theirs out of a paddock from two hundred metres away, by the way they stand as much as by their colour. A figurine has to pass the same test. That means their actual build rather than a generic horse in the right colour, and every white marking exactly where it is.

What to send us

Build first, then colour

We start with conformation: the length of the back, the slope of the shoulder, the set of the neck and the length of leg, all taken from the side on photos. A stocky pony, a Thoroughbred and a heavy cob are different shapes long before they are different colours, and the shape is what makes a figure look like your horse.

Colour is then painted by hand to your photos, including the things that are easy to miss: dapples, a dorsal stripe, a dark muzzle, a tail lighter than the body. White markings are mapped from the leg and face photos rather than guessed.

You see renders before anything is printed and can ask for changes. A standing horse balances on four slim legs, so we check the legs at your chosen size and plan the base to carry the figure.

Size, material and finish

Size
Standard, around 15cm to the top of the head, or large, around 20cm, which gives the legs and the mane more room for detail.
Colour
Hand painted, full colour, matched to your photos.
Material
Resin, for the finest detail in the face, mane and legs.
Base
Recommended for a standing horse. Plain, or engraved with their name, show name or a line of your own.
Finish
Matte, or gloss if you want the shine of a freshly groomed coat.

How long it takes

The quote comes back with a lead time before you commit. Sculpting and hand painting take the time, so for a birthday, a retirement from competition or Christmas, put the real date in the form. The finished figure is posted tracked anywhere in New Zealand.

Questions

Can you add tack or a cover?

Yes. Send photos of the saddle, bridle or cover you want, in their real colours, and they are sculpted from those.

Can you include the rider?

Yes. Send photos of the rider too, ideally in the gear you want them in, and one of horse and rider together so the scale between them is right.

Are the legs fragile?

Slim legs are the weak point of any horse figure. We check them at your chosen size and fix the figure to a base, which is what makes a standing horse sturdy enough to post and to dust.
